This page details the history that lead up to the events of Solar Plexus.
The climate disaster that occurred on Earth was gradual rather than instantaneous. While society was heavily focused on technological advancements, the environment around them slowly began to deteriorate. Various species went extinct, sea levels rose high to the point some shallow islands got submerged, and Antarctica was no longer frozen.
The conditions on the planet became hostile as centuries passed, and soon enough the population began to dwindle, leaving only a few thousands living. Humanity lived in the melted Antarctica around these times.
Around the 51st century, the quality of air worsened, and the ozone layer was predicted to completely disappear within the coming decades. It was no longer safe to continue living in the melted Antarctica. Scientists deemed these environmental impacts on the Earth completely irreversible and that humanity was doomed to a slow death. If they did take any action to shelter people from the conditions, humanity would die out, which led to the proposal of the concept of artificial islands enclosed within a dome that simulated the ozone layer.
The Mantlehold
The construction of The Paragon Isles began in the early 54th century. The isles were situated somewhere within the Pacific Ocean. However, during construction, the state of the Earth only got worse, being more dangerous to live on as time passed. As such, The Mantlehold was constructed, an underground city beneath the foundation of the Paragon Isles, built to shield the remaining members of civilization from the harsh UV rays of the sun and the growing pollution on the surface, all powered by geothermal energy. All of humanity was moved to the Mantlehold during this time, leaving behind the homes they once knew. Organisms were also moved here to conserve biodiversity.
The need for construction of The Mantlehold extended the building of the isles by multiple decades, with the Paragon isles being completed after approximately 200 years, and it took another few decades to construct buildings and have citizens in The Mantlehold move to the surface. Some individuals chose to stay in the Mantlehold.
The Paragon Isles finished construction around the 56th century, but the land still consisted only of “natural” constructs with no buildings. It took 5 decades for a significant number of individuals to migrate to the surface, and civilization slowly began to build itself up again.
Residential areas were built, and stores and businesses slowly emerged once again. For each island, one large school was built for every inhabitant of the respective island to attend. Farmers were able to continue their work raising animals and growing crops. People picked up hobbies, and the arts rose once again, creating a new era of entertainment. Civilisation was back to normal again, and humanity could continue living their lives just like they used to before the disaster.
This accomplishment created a new epoch, marking the beginning of the new calendar era, the Ultramodern Era (shortened to UE).
Humanity's survival was celebrated with an event during the summer season, by visiting each island to appreciate the efforts put into humanity’s survival, which then turned into the annual tradition of the Solar Plexus Tournament.
